Gen3 Systems and Sharemate Technology announce global alliance resulting in two new product lines

FARNBOROUGH, UK – October 17, 2007 – Gen3 Systems Limited today announces that it has formed a strategic, global alliance with Taiwanese distributor Sharemate Technology Inc., that has resulted in the introduction of two new product lines in test and production equipment under the newly created, global brand name of “ShareGen”. These will be launched at the forthcoming Productronica show in Munich, Germany, 13-16 November 2007.

Under the terms of the agreement, Gen3 Systems and Sharemate Technology will pool their resources to develop, manufacture and support the following brand new test and production equipment:

  • The ShareGen SPA 1000 – A unique 6-in-1 solder paste test system that can perform up to six separate tests, that would previously have been performed by separate instruments, in accordance to IEC 61189-5 and IPC-TM-650 standards.

  • The ShareGen G3 Series Automatic Dispenser – a highly accurate yet cost effective auto-correcting dispensing system for liquids, gels and pastes.

Sharemate Technology has exclusively distributed Gen3 Systems electronics reliability instruments and equipment in the Asia Pacific region for over five years (see “About Sharemate Technology Inc.” for more information). The two companies have now decided to pool their resources behind the new range of test and production equipment listed above and all of Gen3 Systems existing product ranges. All the equipment will be supplied under the ShareGen brand.

The equipment includes the newly launched CM 60 large scale VMC ionic contamination (cleanliness) test system (Editor Note: Also being launched at Productronica and features in a separate release) as well as the existing range comprising: MUST 3 solderability tester; CMSeries of ionic contamination testers; Auto-SIR surface insulation resistance tester; and a wide range of dip, spray, in-line and batch conformal coating machines.

“This alliance strengthens both Gen3 Systems and Sharemate’s ability to support the global electronics industry, and further enhances our combined technical knowledge across a broader range of equipment to the mutual benefit of customers around the world,” comments Gen3 Systems’ Managing Director, Graham Naisbitt. “Our combined resources and technical distribution network will now pool expertise from well over 100 staff all dedicated to help engineer reliability in electronics.”

About Sharemate Technology Inc.

Sharemate Technology Inc., Taiwan, was established in 1987 as an electronics trading and distribution company supplying capital equipment, materials and services throughout Taiwan on behalf of Multicore Solders’ SPCID equipment division. When Concoat Systems Ltd acquired this division in 2002 (to become Gen3 Systems in June 2006 following the sale of former sister company Concoat Ltd to US firm Chase Corporation in 2005), Sharemate was appointed exclusive distribution rights for the whole Asia-Pacific region.

During the 1990s, Sharemate expanded and diversified beyond the Multicore Solders SPCID products now available from Gen3 Systems. This resulted in distribution franchises that included electronic assembly manufacturing equipment, soldering process control instruments, process materials and equipment, soldering process control instruments, process materials and semiconductor products.

Today Sharemate has 60 staff (of which 50 are engaged in pure field sales service and support) and in addition to its Taipei City headquarters in Taiwan, has established regional offices in Suzhou, China and Singapore.

About Gen3 Systems

Gen3 Systems is dedicated to tackling the demanding electronics reliability challenges of lead-free assembly and further electronics miniaturisation. The company is a specialist manufacturer of test and measurement equipment used to predict the reliability of electronic circuits and systems in the field. In addition, the company designs and manufactures conformal coating process equipment in both in-line and bench-top formats.

Gen3 Systems’ Managing Director Graham Naisbitt is a member of the IEC’s TC91 WG3, the working group that formulates test standards for the assembly industry. He is also leader of Solderability Testing Standard IEC 60068-2-69, Co-leader of Solderability Testing Standard IEC 60068-2-54, Co-Chair of IPC-TM-650 Test Methods Sub-Committee, and Member of IPC-J-STD 002 and IPC-J-STD 003, among many others.

Gen3 Systems is founded on the former Concoat Systems Limited. Concoat Systems and its company slogan “Engineering Reliability in Electronics” (which has been retained by Gen3 Systems) was a familiar name in Europe, Asia and much of North America. The new company was launched by its family owners after former sister company Concoat Limited was sold to US firm Chase Corporation in 2005.

Process Product Support is the new UK / Ireland market Division for Gen3 Systems, also bringing together many new distributed products from Marantz (AOI), ACE (Selective Soldering), Kirsten (Jet Wave Soldering), SAWA (specialist USC Systems) as well as R&D Technical Services (Vapour-Phase Systems), MB Tech (Cleaning Systems) and several others.

Gen3 Systems operates from new premises near Farnborough Business Park, on the M3 corridor and just 30 minutes from London’s Heathrow Airport. The company has an entirely new management team focused on the needs and requirements of its customers around the world.

Gen3 Systems also provides training, equipment and expertise for manufacturers requiring assessment of their electronic products’ reliability. The company also assists with standards development via both the IPC and IEC.

The company’s product range and services include:

  • AUTOSIR Surface Insulation Resistance (SIR) test system
  • MUST 3 solderability test system
  • SOLDAPRO thermal profilers
  • CM SERIES cleanliness test systems
